National Fire Prevention Week begins today!

This year’s theme is “Working Smoke Detectors Save Lives.” Did you know that two-thirds of fire deaths happen in homes with no smoke alarm, or smoke alarms that don’t work? Smoke Detectors SAVE LIVES! Protect your life and home by testing your smoke detectors MONTHLY and replacing the batteries ANNUALLY.

  • Plano – October 9th: Join Plano Fire-Rescue at one of the 13 fire stations for their annual Fire Prevention Week Fire Station Open House! Details
  • Plano – Ongoing: Plano Fire-Rescue’s LAFS (Life And Fire Safety) Clown Program is presented by Patches, Snozzle and Sheriff Sam who use music, magic and humor to teach fire safety to elementary-aged children. Shows are approximately 35 minutes long. Schedule
  • McKinney – October 12th: Join the McKinney Fire Department Open House at Central Fire Station located at 301 N. McDonald Street, McKinney from 2-4 p.m. During the event, firefighters will lead tours of the station and the McKinney Fire Department Museum, and provide overviews of trucks, ambulances and safety gear.   • McKinney – Ongoing: The McKinney Fire Museum provides a visual history of the culture, technology and related facts of fire and emergency medical service from its earliest beginnings to the present. Located at Central Fire Station, hours depend upon availability of on-duty staff to assist visitors; call ahead! Details
  • Frisco – Ongoing: The Frisco Fire Clowns Red, Smokey, Skwert and Siren visit all Frisco ISD elementary schools to “clown around” and provide important safety messages to students. The importance of preventing fires, planning fire escape routes, testing smoke detectors, knowing how & when to dial 911 are among the topics covered. Details
